Government, Family of Deceased Rabin Mehta Hold Positive Talks, Agree to Post-Mortem Examination

 


Kathmandu, August 4 — Talks between the government and the family of 22-year-old Rabin Mehta, who died while undergoing treatment after being injured in an incident in Sunsari, ended on a positive note on Tuesday.

The discussion was held at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj in the presence of Home Minister Sudan Gurung. During the meeting, the government expressed its commitment to addressing the concerns raised by Mehta's family and assured them of all necessary support, relief, and a fair process, according to the Home Minister's Secretariat.

Home Minister Gurung extended his condolences to the bereaved family and pledged that the government would provide every possible assistance.

Family representatives said they would consult Mehta's parents before holding another round of discussions on Wednesday. They also agreed to receive Mehta's body and allow it to be sent to the Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The Home Minister's Secretariat said the dialogue between the two sides is moving in a positive direction, with both parties expected to meet again on Wednesday to finalize an agreement.

Rabin Mehta, a resident of Kaptanganj in Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3, Sunsari, was seriously injured in an incident on the night of July 26 (Shrawan 10 in the Nepali calendar). He died on Tuesday while receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.
