Kathmandu, August 30 — Prime Minister Balendra Shah has said the government is fully committed to supporting citizens affected by the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa, with rescue, relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts continuing on a priority basis.
In a message posted on social media on Sunday, Prime Minister Shah expressed confidence that the current crisis could be overcome through unity and collective efforts. He said the government would ensure that relief reaches every affected individual and that reconstruction and rehabilitation works would continue until tangible results are achieved.
Acknowledging the difficult weather conditions, challenging terrain and continuing risks in the affected areas, Shah said the government was moving ahead with determination to protect citizens' lives.
“The pain of losing loved ones, homes and property is beyond anything else,” Shah said, stressing that the government remains deeply concerned and sensitive toward citizens facing such a difficult situation.
According to the prime minister, the entire state mechanism has been mobilized on a war footing for rescue and relief operations. So far, 9,435 people have been rescued, he said.
Medical teams, including doctors from Kathmandu, have also been deployed to the affected areas to provide treatment and psychological counseling. Efforts are underway to resume services at health facilities disrupted by the floods.
Communication services have already been restored in most affected locations, while authorities are working to reconnect isolated areas by putting alternative roads into operation.
Shah also said transportation services had been disrupted after road sections were washed away in the Krishnabhir area. The government, he said, will continue its efforts to provide immediate relief while also focusing on long-term rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The prime minister called for continued unity and collective cooperation among the government, security agencies, local communities and citizens to overcome the disaster.
