House of Representatives to Meet Today; Indigenous Commission Report and Landless Issues on Agenda

 


Kathmandu, August 4: Nepal's House of Representatives is scheduled to convene at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, with several key legislative and policy matters included in the day's agenda.

Representing Prime Minister Balendra Shah, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam is expected to table the Sixth Annual Report (FY 2024/25) of the Indigenous Nationalities Commission before the House.

The meeting will also deliberate on an urgent public importance motion registered by Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishmaraj Angdembe. The proposal calls on the government to identify genuine landless people, squatters, and unmanaged settlers, ensure their protection and rehabilitation, provide safe housing and access to essential services, including food, healthcare, education, and livelihoods, and distribute land ownership certificates to eligible beneficiaries at the earliest.

The motion has been supported by lawmakers Ain Bahadur Mahara, Yubaraj Dulal, and Aren Rai.

Meanwhile, five parliamentary committees are also scheduled to hold meetings on Tuesday.

The Finance Committee will continue clause-by-clause discussions on the bill to amend the Nepal Rastra Bank Act, 2002. The International Relations and Tourism Committee will hold a preliminary discussion with the concerned ministry on the Tourism Bill, 2024.

The Industry, Commerce, Labour and Consumer Welfare Committee will discuss the management of cooking gas supplies. Likewise, the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee will conduct both conceptual and clause-wise discussions on the bill related to restoring previous provisions of the Nepal Special Service Act, 1985, and will also review the report of the Procedure Drafting Subcommittee.

In addition, the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee is scheduled to discuss the implementation of government assurances with the committee's former chairperson, Ram Narayan Bidari.

Motorcyclist Fined After MP Bablu Gupta's Motorcycle Stunt Goes Viral

  Siraha, July 24 — Traffic police have fined the rider of a motorcycle after a video showing Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Bablu Gupta performing a risky stunt while riding went viral on social media. The viral video shows Gupta, who was elected to the House of Representatives from Siraha Constituency-1, standing on the back of a moving Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycle.
