Durga Prasai Arrested Hours After Announcing Protest Movement

 


Kathmandu, August 2 — Medical entrepreneur and political activist Durga Prasai was arrested by Nepal Police from his residence in Bhaktapur on Sunday night, just hours after announcing a nationwide protest movement.

According to police, Prasai was taken into custody on allegations of engaging in activities that could disturb public peace and security. Authorities said legal procedures have been initiated following his arrest.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon, during a press conference, Prasai announced plans to launch a movement demanding the restoration of Nepal as a Hindu state and the reinstatement of the monarchy.

He was arrested only a few hours after making the announcement. Police have not yet released further details regarding the charges or the ongoing legal process.
