Kathmandu: Federal government employees in Nepal are set to receive their salaries and allowances twice a month as the government moves ahead with a new payment arrangement.
Under the revised system, payments will be processed after each 15-day period instead of being made once a month.
The Office of the Financial Comptroller General has notified the concerned treasury and accounts offices, as well as offices responsible for pension management and government revenue collection, to prepare for the new arrangement.
The Ministry of Finance had approved the semi-monthly salary system in April. Its rollout, however, was postponed because the required digital and administrative mechanisms were not ready.
The system is now being expanded across federal government offices. Employees will be able to receive both their regular salaries and applicable allowances on a 15-day cycle.
The government had first tested the arrangement within the Ministry of Finance before deciding to extend it to other federal agencies from the current fiscal year.
Officials say the nationwide rollout was delayed by around a month as preparations for the payment system took longer than expected.
