The government has taken a series of decisions to speed up rescue, medical treatment and relief efforts for people affected by the Bhotekoshi flood.
A Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday decided to provide free medical treatment to people injured in the disaster. Government hospitals, the Ministry of Health and the Nepal Army will coordinate arrangements for their treatment, government spokesperson Sasmita Pokhrel said.
The meeting also directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to immediately rescue people stranded or at risk and relocate them to safer areas. Helicopters operated by the Nepal Army and private-sector companies will be mobilized for the rescue operation.
The government has assigned the Ministry of Home Affairs, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority and relevant disaster management committees to arrange temporary shelter and other necessary support for families who have lost their homes.
The Cabinet also decided to provide compensation to the families of those who lost their lives in the disaster in accordance with existing laws.
Meanwhile, the concerned ministries have been instructed to restore roads and drinking-water services disrupted by the floods. The Ministry of Energy and the Nepal Electricity Authority will work to restore electricity supplies in affected areas as soon as possible.
The government said it would intensify rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts and ensure that immediate assistance reaches people affected by the Bhotekoshi flood.
