Iran Strongly Objects to US Economic Sanctions

Kathmandu — Iran has strongly opposed the new economic sanctions announced by the United States against Tehran. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei criticized Washington’s move, accusing the US of attempting to force other countries to comply with American sanctions.

Baghaei said the United States has no authority to pressure foreign banks, companies, and financial institutions into stopping trade with Iran. He argued that such actions violate the principle of sovereign equality enshrined in the United Nations Charter.

US President Donald Trump has warned of severe consequences for countries, companies, and financial institutions that continue economic dealings with Iran. He has described the planned campaign as a high-level economic war against Tehran.

Ibrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, also criticized Washington, saying the US was pursuing measures contrary to the spirit of diplomacy.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have increased after a 60-day deadline set for negotiations toward a final agreement expired on Monday without a deal.

The two countries had signed an interim memorandum in June aimed at ending hostilities and creating a path toward further negotiations. However, the latest US sanctions have added further challenges to diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.
