The government has made Nepal Telecom’s phone and data services free of charge in four flood-affected districts to facilitate rescue, relief and coordination efforts.
The Ministry of Finance said the measure was introduced to make communication easier for people and agencies involved in rescue and relief operations in the affected areas.
With flooding disrupting communication and transportation in several areas, the free phone and data services are expected to help authorities, security agencies and local residents maintain contact and coordinate rescue and relief activities more effectively.
Meanwhile, the government has also eased procedures for private helicopters being used for relief, search and rescue operations.
According to the Ministry of Finance, private helicopters deployed specifically for relief, search and rescue operations will not be required to obtain separate permission.
The government said it is prioritizing immediate search, rescue and relief operations in areas affected by the floods and is mobilizing the necessary resources and equipment.
