Kathmandu: The Nepal Teachers’ Federation has expressed strong objection after being excluded from the ‘Education Dialogue’ program organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports to gather suggestions on the proposed Education Act.
Issuing a statement on Sunday, the federation said that its institutional participation was not sought or included in policy discussions concerning teachers’ and employees’ professional issues. It accused the ministry of showing disregard for the concerns and professional movement of teachers and education employees.
The federation has also warned the ministry to correct its decision immediately. In its statement, it said, “We draw the ministry’s attention to this issue and urge it to seriously reconsider and correct itself without delay. Otherwise, the ministry itself will be responsible for any difficult situation that may arise from this.”
The Ministry of Education has started conducting the ‘Education Dialogue’ program across all seven provinces to listen to the views and concerns of education stakeholders before drafting the new Education Act.
The campaign began on Saturday in Biratnagar, Koshi Province. The program, held at Adarsha Secondary School, was attended by school principals, teachers, students, parents and other stakeholders from the education sector.
The second day of the ‘Education Dialogue’ campaign is being held in Madhesh Province on Sunday.
The dispute centers on the ministry’s decision not to formally include the Nepal Teachers’ Federation in the dialogue process, raising concerns about whether the voices and professional concerns of teachers and education employees will be adequately represented in the process of drafting the new Education Act.
