Indonesia Volcano Eruption Causes Major Disruption to Air Services

Kathmandu, September 6: Hundreds of air passengers in Indonesia have faced travel disruptions after volcanic ash from Anak Krakatau spread across nearby regions and affected airport operations.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Transportation said 209 flights were impacted after aviation services were disrupted at Jakarta’s Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. The affected services include both domestic and international flights.

Anak Krakatau has been showing volcanic activity since Friday night. Ash released during the eruptions has reportedly reached Lampung in Sumatra and Banten on Java, creating difficulties for communities in the surrounding areas.

The volcanic ash has also affected normal activities on the ground. Authorities have temporarily closed some schools, while fishing operations have been halted in affected areas.

Despite the eruption and the spread of ash, Indonesia’s disaster management authorities have said there is no immediate threat of a tsunami.

Officials are continuing to monitor the volcanic activity and its potential impact on transportation and nearby communities.
