Janakpur, July 25 – The Chief of the Groundwater Resources and Irrigation Development Division Office in Karmaiya, Sarlahi, Anupama Dhakal, and Mechanical Officer Tulakant Chaudhary have been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe.

A team from the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Bardibas Office, raided the division chief's official residence in Bagmati Municipality–12 on Friday evening. During the search, officials recovered Rs 750,000 in cash allegedly received from a service recipient. The money was reportedly found on the sofa where Dhakal was sitting.

Investigators also seized an additional Rs 71,115 in cash whose source could not be verified, bringing the total amount recovered to Rs 821,115.

According to the CIAA, the alleged bribe was demanded after several Water Users' Committees completed borewell and irrigation pump installation projects and sought payment for the completed work. The anti-graft body alleges that Dhakal instructed Mechanical Officer Chaudhary to collect the money from the service recipient. Chaudhary allegedly received Rs 750,000 and delivered it to Dhakal's government residence.

Following the raid, both officials were taken into custody. The CIAA said further investigation is underway and legal proceedings will be initiated in accordance with the law.
