Russian Ballistic Missile Strike Near Kyiv Kills 15, Injures Nearly 100

 


Kyiv, July 25 — At least 15 people were killed and around 100 others injured after Russia launched a ballistic missile strike targeting a drone technology exhibition near Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the exhibition was attended by senior defense officials and drone technology experts when the attack took place on Saturday afternoon. The exhibition site suffered the heaviest damage, with 10 of the deaths reported there.

In eastern Ukraine, five more people were killed in a Russian glide bomb attack on the city of Sloviansk, while two others lost their lives in the northern city of Sumy, according to Ukrainian military officials.

The attack came a day after President Zelenskyy revealed that Ukrainian intelligence had warned of a possible large-scale Russian missile strike within 48 hours.

Ukraine's Air Force spokesperson Yurii Ihnat said Russia launched three ballistic missiles toward the Kyiv region, but Ukrainian air defense systems intercepted only one of them.

Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed the strike, saying it targeted a drone exhibition allegedly linked to attacks on Russian territory. Moscow claimed the venue was attended by drone manufacturers, members of Ukraine's drone forces, and security officials involved in planning operations against Russia.

The attack marks the third strike on a publicly announced drone exhibition since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The decision to organize the event publicly has also sparked criticism within Ukraine.

Following the incident, Ukraine's Prosecutor General's Office launched an investigation into who authorized the exhibition and whether proper security measures had been in place.

Meanwhile, Russia said six people were killed and 26 injured after a Ukrainian attack on a military-industrial facility in the Russian city of Kirov. Ukraine also reportedly carried out drone strikes on warehouses owned by Russia's largest online retailer, Wildberries.

President Zelenskyy said the factory targeted in Kirov manufactures key aircraft and missile components used in Russia's war against Ukraine. He added that Ukraine has recently shifted its focus toward disrupting Russian logistics hubs.

Zelenskyy is expected to visit the United States next week, where he is scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday. The meeting is expected to focus on reviving peace negotiations aimed at ending the Russia–Ukraine war.

Separately, Romanian President Nicușor Dan said a Romanian F-16 fighter jet shot down a Russian drone after it entered Romanian airspace. Romania had earlier issued air raid warnings for its eastern and southeastern regions amid heightened security concerns.
