Doctors Continue Nationwide Protest, Non-Emergency Health Services Remain Suspended



Kathmandu, July 29 — The Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has continued its nationwide protest for a second day, keeping all non-emergency health services suspended across the country in response to the attack on doctors and healthcare workers at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj.

The association launched the protest on Tuesday, demanding strict legal action against those involved in the assault on medical staff and the vandalism at the hospital. The NMA said the movement would continue until the government takes decisive action against the perpetrators.

As part of Wednesday’s protest, doctors and healthcare professionals are holding a demonstration at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu from 10:00 a.m. In districts outside the capital, medical professionals are submitting memorandums through the respective Chief District Officers (CDOs) while staging sit-ins and peaceful protests at their workplaces.

The Nepal Medical Association has urged the government to ensure the safety of healthcare workers, immediately bring those responsible for the attack to justice, and take effective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Due to the ongoing protest, outpatient departments (OPD), scheduled surgeries, and other routine medical services at government and private hospitals across Nepal remain suspended, while emergency services continue to operate.
