Narayani Hospital Shuts Down All Services, Including Emergency Care, After Assault on Doctors




Birgunj, July 26 — Doctors at Narayani Hospital in Birgunj have suspended all medical services, including emergency care, in protest after healthcare workers were allegedly assaulted by the relatives of a deceased patient.

The incident occurred on Saturday after 45-year-old Raj Kumar Patel, a resident of Ward No. 25 of Birgunj Metropolitan City, died while receiving treatment in the hospital's emergency department. Following his death, family members accused doctors and hospital management of medical negligence and staged a protest, during which doctors and healthcare staff were reportedly physically attacked.

In response to the incident, the hospital administration relieved five healthcare workers involved in the patient's treatment of their duties until an investigation is completed.

The Nepal Medical Association's Narayani Regional Committee announced a protest on Sunday, putting forward a four-point demand. The committee has called for strict legal action against those responsible for attacking medical personnel, the reinstatement of the suspended doctors, and stronger security measures for healthcare workers.

Doctors have stated that all hospital services, including emergency care, will remain suspended until their demands are addressed. The shutdown has disrupted medical services and affected patients seeking treatment.

Earlier, the Nepal Medical Association had also warned of nationwide protests if attacks on healthcare professionals continue without strict legal action against the perpetrators.
