NEVSU Central Member Nejamuddin Ansari Released After Settlement

 


Kalaiya, Bara: Nepal Students' Union (NEVSU) Central Committee member Nejamuddin Ansari, who was detained for issuing a social media threat to smear black ink on Member of the House of Representatives Arvind Sah, has been released following an amicable settlement.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Meen Bahadur Ghale, spokesperson for the Bara District Police Office, Ansari was released on Thursday after both sides reached a mutual understanding.

Ansari had earlier posted an "Open Challenge" on Facebook, stating that he would smear black ink on MP Arvind Sah wherever he met him. In the same post, he accused the lawmaker from Bara Constituency No. 3 of failing to fulfill even one percent of the commitments made during the election campaign.

Following the post, Bara Police detained Ansari, stating that the social media message could pose a threat to public peace and security, and launched an investigation into the matter.

After his release, Ansari issued a public statement on Facebook acknowledging his mistake. He wrote that using social media to make threatening statements or disturb social harmony, peace, and public order is a legal offense and cannot be considered freedom of expression.

He further stated that he had deleted his previous posts and urged everyone to work together for the social and economic development of Kalaiya.

The incident has sparked discussions in the local community regarding responsible use of social media, the legal limits of freedom of expression, and the protection of public officials from threatening remarks.
