Home Minister, Hindu Front Reach Fresh Verbal Agreement After Renewed Talks

 


Janakpur, August 2 — The Government of Nepal and the Joint Hindu Front held another round of talks in Janakpur on Sunday, resulting in a fresh verbal agreement. The meeting, attended by Home Minister Sudhan Gurung, expanded the previous 13-point understanding into an 18-point agreement after clarifying several disputed issues.

During the meeting, representatives of the Joint Hindu Front submitted a revised memorandum outlining their demands to the Home Minister. According to officials, the renewed talks were aimed at resolving ambiguities surrounding the agreement reached on Saturday night.

Dhanusha Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luintel said the discussions clarified concerns related to the agreement, including issues regarding signatures, official documentation, and media reports. He stated that the Home Minister addressed all outstanding questions, after which the Hindu Front expressed satisfaction and agreed to withdraw its planned protest programs.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Krishna Sanatani, Central Vice President of the Hindu Emperor Army, said several points had been corrected and that the Home Minister had assured the delegation that their demands would be addressed. He also said the minister pledged that security forces would not resort to opening fire on demonstrators.

The earlier 13-point memorandum submitted on Saturday included demands such as restoring Nepal as a Hindu nation and ending the protest movement. Sunday's discussions expanded and clarified those provisions, resulting in an 18-point verbal understanding between the two sides.

With the latest agreement, the Joint Hindu Front has suspended its protest programs, while the government has pledged to move forward with discussions on implementing the agreed demands.
