Trump Warns Countries Trading with Iran Could Face Action

Kathmandu: US President Donald Trump has warned of imposing the toughest-ever economic measures against Iran, signaling increased pressure on Tehran after a deadlock emerged in talks aimed at ending the conflict between the two countries.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, accused Iran of missing an opportunity to reach an agreement and warned that it would now face severe economic pressure and international isolation.

He also warned that countries conducting trade or commercial transactions with Iran could face US sanctions. According to Trump, any country allowing Iran to receive assistance through its financial institutions, businesses, airports or government agencies could face serious economic consequences.

Trump specifically called for an immediate halt to activities linked to oil smuggling, financial transactions, cash transfers, exchange houses, vessel registration and front companies associated with Iran.

He said US allies must stand together to eliminate what he described as the threat posed by Iran.

Trump has previously threatened to impose additional economic sanctions on Iran. The United States has already imposed sanctions targeting Iran’s oil industry and other key sectors of its economy.

The latest warning, however, suggests that Washington could also intensify pressure on third countries that continue doing business with Iran.
