Landslides Block Major Highways Leading to Kathmandu; Seven Locations Affected in Krishna Bhir

Kathmandu, September 25 — Major highways connecting Kathmandu with other parts of the country have been disrupted after continuous rainfall triggered landslides at several locations. Traffic along the Prithvi Highway, Kanti Lokpath and BP Highway has come to a complete halt.

According to the District Police Office in Dhading, landslides carrying rocks and debris have occurred at seven locations, including the Krishna Bhir section. The ongoing rainfall has made it difficult for authorities to clear the debris and reopen the roads.

Traffic on the Prithvi Highway had already been halted since Thursday evening. Authorities had planned to resume vehicle movement from 5 a.m. on Friday, but the worsening road conditions forced them to keep the highway closed indefinitely.

The Krishna Bhir section had previously suffered road damage due to the erosion of the Trishuli River on Bhadra 14. After nearly two weeks of work, a diversion was constructed and traffic was restored. However, fresh landslides have now occurred along the diversion and other nearby sections, disrupting traffic once again.

Meanwhile, the Kanti Lokpath and BP Highway have also been blocked by landslides, bringing movement along these routes to a standstill. Police said continuous rainfall could further delay efforts to clear the roads and restore transportation.
