Schools Asked to Close on September 24 and 25 Amid Heavy Rain Risk

Kathmandu, September 23-The Ministry of Education and Sports has urged local governments to close schools as necessary on September 24 and 25, citing the risk of heavy rainfall and possible disasters.

In a letter sent through the Education Development and Coordination Units, the ministry asked local authorities to prioritize the safety of students and take decisions based on local conditions.

According to the ministry, several parts of the country are likely to experience heavy rainfall from September 25 to 27. There is also a possibility of snowfall in high-hill and mountainous areas, along with strong winds and lightning in some places.

The ministry has also requested universities and bodies conducting examinations to consider postponing examinations scheduled for September 25 to 27 if necessary, depending on the weather situation.

Local governments have been asked to facilitate the use of safe school buildings as temporary shelters if required during a disaster.

The ministry has also urged parents to remain vigilant and prevent children from going to rivers, streams, ponds and areas at risk of landslides. Parents have been advised to take extra precautions and avoid allowing children to venture outdoors during adverse weather conditions.
