Bara, September 14. The festive spirit of Haritalika Teej has spread across Bara and the rest of Nepal as women gathered at Shiva temples from early morning to offer prayers and worship. Alongside religious rituals, many women were also seen making TikTok videos, recording short clips and taking selfies.
In various Shiva temples and religious sites across Bara, women arrived early in colorful traditional attire carrying पूजा सामग्री for worship. Groups of women were seen performing Shiva-Parvati rituals while others danced to Teej songs, recorded TikTok videos and shared photos and videos on social media.
The Teej atmosphere has become particularly lively in Kalaiya, Jitpur Simara, Nijgadh, Mahagadhimai, Simraungadh and Pacharauta. Women gathered in groups to sing and dance to traditional Teej songs, while many young women were busy creating TikTok videos using popular Teej music.
On Teej, women traditionally worship Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati while praying for happiness, peace, prosperity and a successful married life. Both married and unmarried women observe fasting and visit Shiva temples to offer prayers.
Alongside religious devotion, Teej has increasingly become a social-media-centered celebration. Young women and girls in particular have embraced TikTok, making dance videos, taking selfies and sharing their festive moments with friends and followers.
A large number of devotees also visited major Shiva temples across the country, including Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu. Women dressed in red, green and other colorful traditional outfits arrived with पूजा सामग्री. At Pashupati as well, worshippers were seen taking selfies and creating TikTok videos alongside their religious activities.
The traditional practice of gathering at maternal homes and relatives' houses, sharing special Teej meals, singing songs, dancing and exchanging greetings has continued. At the same time, TikTok videos, photographs and other social-media posts have added a new dimension to the celebration.
Teej is traditionally associated with religious faith, family relationships and the cultural expression of Nepali women. With changing times, TikTok, videos and selfies have increasingly become part of the way the festival is celebrated, adding a modern touch to traditional worship and festivities.
Religious sites across the country are expected to remain busy throughout the day, with devotees continuing to participate in worship and Teej activities. Security personnel have also been deployed at crowded locations to manage the movement and safety of devotees.
