Sarlahi, September 18. Two leaders of the Nepali Congress Sarlahi District Committee, Acting District President Saroj Kumar and Regional President Bhikhari Thakur, have resigned from their party positions and general membership, citing dissatisfaction with the process of distributing and renewing active party memberships.
Acting District President Saroj Kumar submitted his resignation to the party’s central president, stating that he was stepping down from both his position and ordinary membership of the Nepali Congress.
In his resignation letter, he accused the party of irregularities in the distribution and renewal of active memberships in Sarlahi Constituency No. 2. He expressed dissatisfaction, alleging that democratic values, norms and established party procedures had not been followed in the process.
Saroj Kumar also claimed that the party had deviated from the political ideals promoted by its founding leaders, including BP Koirala, Suvarna Shumsher Rana, Ganesh Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Bhattarai.
He further alleged that individuals who had played a role in defeating Nepali Congress candidates in local, provincial and federal elections were not disciplined but were instead granted or had their active memberships renewed.
According to him, such practices had seriously hurt the sentiments of party members and cadres. He therefore decided to relinquish all responsibilities and membership of the party and requested that his resignation be accepted immediately.
Meanwhile, Bhikhari Thakur, regional president of Sarlahi Constituency No. 2 (B), also resigned from his post and ordinary membership of the party.
In his resignation letter addressed to the central president, Thakur alleged that the active membership list for Constituency No. 2 (B) had been prepared and submitted in a biased manner and that irregularities had been committed in the process.
He said he was surprised after reviewing the membership list and requested that his resignation, effective immediately, be accepted.
The resignations of the two leaders have brought renewed attention to internal dissatisfaction within the Sarlahi Nepali Congress over the distribution and renewal of active party memberships.
