Bara, September 18: Police have arrested 60-year-old Hasan Jan Miyan on allegations of raping a five-year-old girl in Inarwashira of Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-19, Bara.
After receiving information about the alleged rape, a police team from the Area Police Office, Simara, reached the incident site at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday. When police attempted to take Miyan into custody, local residents protested, creating tension at the scene for some time.
The locals reportedly argued that legal action against the accused would not be sufficient and said they would punish him themselves. As the crowd became uncontrollable, an additional police team from Kalaiya was also deployed to the area.
Police used force to disperse the crowd and subsequently took Miyan into custody before bringing him to the Area Police Office, Simara. Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
Concern has increased at the local level in Bara in recent weeks following a number of serious criminal incidents involving young girls. Earlier, a three-year-old girl from Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-1 was reportedly raped and killed.
