Nepali Worker Killed in Iranian Missile Strike in Kuwait

 


Kathmandu, July 31 — A Nepali migrant worker was killed in an Iranian missile strike in Kuwait, according to the Nepali Embassy in Kuwait.

The deceased has been identified as 44-year-old Som Kumar Tamang from Tehrathum district. The embassy said he lost his life when an Iranian missile hit a building of a Chinese company located on Fufen Island in northern Kuwait on Thursday.

Tamang had been working in Kuwait as a driver since 2022. The missile strike also caused significant damage to the company's building.

With this incident, the number of Nepali migrant workers killed in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel in West Asia has risen to two. Earlier, Diwas Shrestha from Gorkha was killed in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

According to a statement issued by Kuwait's Ministry of Defense, the Iranian attack targeted a Chinese company building in the country's northern region, killing one worker and causing extensive property damage.

Government data released by Kuwait a week ago shows that around 186,000 Nepali nationals are currently employed in the country. Of them, about 115,000 work in private companies, 68,900 are employed as domestic workers, and 421 serve in the government sector.
