Tensions Escalate in Siraha: Curfew Imposed in Lahan, One Youth Killed in Golbazar Shooting

 


Siraha, July 30 — The security situation in Siraha has become more tense after the District Administration Office imposed an indefinite curfew in the Lahan area. The decision was taken after a youth was killed during a protest in Golbazar, leading authorities to tighten security across the district.

According to the District Administration Office, the curfew in Lahan Municipality came into effect from 4:00 PM on Thursday and will remain in place until further notice. The restricted area includes the East-West Highway section from Balan River in the east to Saraswati River (west of Batika Hotel) in the west, along with areas extending 500 meters on both sides of the highway.

Earlier, the administration had imposed a curfew in various areas of Golbazar Municipality. During a protest there, a youth named Ganesh Yadav of Golbazar-3 died after being hit by a bullet. Another person was injured in the incident and is undergoing treatment at a local health facility.

According to local residents, a clash had taken place between two groups before the shooting. Following the incident, protesters placed the victim’s body on the road and continued their demonstration. They have refused to allow authorities to remove the body.

Assistant Chief District Officer Chet Raj Baral said that police have denied firing directly at protesters. He stated that security personnel used only aerial firing and tear gas to control the situation. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances behind the shooting.

Senior security officials have reached Golbazar following the incident. Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force, and other security agencies have been mobilized to bring the situation under control. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm, avoid rumors, and follow official instructions.
