Deuba Attends Nepali Congress Dissident Faction’s National Gathering; Shashank Says, “Congress Will Move Forward Under His Leadership”

 


Kathmandu: Former president of the Nepali Congress and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has participated in the national gathering organized by the party’s dissident faction.

Deuba attended the gathering that began in Kathmandu on Friday. The event is being chaired by Dr. Shashank Koirala, coordinator of the National Gathering Organizing Committee and former general secretary of the Nepali Congress.

Deuba returned to Nepal only on Thursday and joined the gathering of the dissident faction the following day. He had travelled to Singapore on Falgun 13 for medical treatment after sustaining injuries in an attack during the Gen Z movement. He later returned to Nepal via Hong Kong and Thailand.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Shashank Koirala said the national gathering was organized to unite the Nepali Congress. He claimed that no one could defeat the party if it remained united.

Koirala also recalled his long association with Deuba. According to him, B.P. Koirala had introduced him to Deuba for the first time in Banaras. Later, Girija Prasad Koirala had asked him to contact Deuba.

Recalling the period after the 2046 BS People’s Movement, Koirala said he had telephoned Deuba, who was then in London, and also discussed Deuba’s political journey.

Koirala said Deuba’s participation had made the national gathering more successful and asserted that the Nepali Congress would continue moving forward under Deuba’s leadership.

“Sher Bahadur is our leader, our president,” Koirala said. “The Nepali Congress will move forward under his leadership.”

He also stressed that all factions within the Nepali Congress must take responsibility for maintaining unity within the party.

Motorcyclist Fined After MP Bablu Gupta's Motorcycle Stunt Goes Viral
