Nine Injured After Drunk Driver's Gas Tanker Hits E-Rickshaw in Parsa, Six Critical

 


Birgunj, Aug. 6 — Nine people were injured, six of them critically, after a gas tanker driven by an intoxicated driver rammed into an electric rickshaw in Parsa district on Wednesday night.

The accident occurred at Bahuari Chowk along the Hulaki Highway in Birgunj Metropolitan City-24 at around 8:00 p.m. Police said the Na.2 Ha 6682 e-rickshaw was traveling from Powerhouse toward Tilave Bridge when it was struck from behind by an Indian gas tanker bearing registration number RJ14 GE 8710, which was moving in the same direction.

After the collision, the tanker driver fled the scene. All nine injured passengers were rescued and admitted to Narayani Neuro Hospital in Birgunj for treatment. According to police, six of the victims are in critical condition, while the remaining three sustained moderate injuries.

Police later arrested the fleeing driver, identified as Dhaneshwar Rai, approximately 48, a resident of Sahebganj in Muzaffarpur district, Bihar, India.

A medical examination confirmed that the driver had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Police have launched further investigation into the incident.
