Three Killed, Nine Still Missing in Rolpa Landslide
Rolpa: Three people have died after a landslide struck Botlbara in Thabang Rural Municipality–5 of Rolpa on Wednesday night. Nine others remain missing, while two people have been rescued from the disaster site.
The landslide came down from above the settlement and buried six houses and cattle sheds in the area, causing significant damage.
According to the District Police Office, Rolpa, those who died in the incident have been identified as 60-year-old Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar, 18-year-old Shanti Pun Magar and 71-year-old Manarkhi Pun Magar.
Two people, 22-year-old Himal Pun Magar and 25-year-old Sanjay Gharti Magar, were injured in the landslide. They have been rescued and preparations are underway to take them outside the area for further treatment.
The missing persons have been identified as 40-year-old Junkumari Pun Magar, 9-year-old Ashim Pun Magar, 6-year-old Ashok Pun Magar, 75-year-old Dal Bahadur Pun Magar, 80-year-old Ajambar Pun Magar, 78-year-old Bal Bahadur Pun Magar, 72-year-old Lil Bahadur Pun Magar, 71-year-old Mani Pun Magar and 67-year-old Hastakala Rokamagar.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Panchakumar Bakhu of the District Police Office, 10 people were initially reported missing following the landslide. The body of one of them has since been recovered, leaving nine people still unaccounted for.
Police personnel and local residents have been mobilized for the search and rescue operation. Police said efforts to locate the missing people are continuing despite the difficult conditions.
