Two Killed, Two Injured and 10 Missing After Landslide Buries Houses in Rolpa
Rolpa, August 13: Two people have died, two others have been injured and 10 people are missing after a landslide triggered by incessant rainfall buried houses and animal sheds in Rolpa.
The landslide occurred at around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday in Kotbara, Thabang Rural Municipality-5, when debris from above swept down and buried around six houses and animal sheds, including the home of local resident Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar. Police said livestock were also buried in the incident.
Police from the Area Police Office, Uwa, reached the site after receiving information about the incident at around 9:30 p.m. With the help of local residents, they rescued 22-year-old Himal Pun Magar and 25-year-old Sanjay Gharti Magar in an injured condition at around 11:55 p.m. Preparations were underway to take them to hospital for treatment.
Police said 18-year-old Shanti Pun Magar and 60-year-old Kamal Bahadur Pun Magar were found dead after being buried by the landslide.
A further police team equipped with disaster-response materials has been dispatched from the District Police Office, Rolpa, under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Panchakumar Bakhu to assist with the search and rescue operation.
Rolpa Chief District Officer Gangabahadur Chhetri has also reached the incident site.
Police said further details were yet to be confirmed due to ineffective communication in the area. Search and rescue operations are currently underway.
