Woman Attempts Self-Immolation at Dhanusha Court Gate, Police Intervene in Time
Janakpurdham: A 55-year-old woman attempted self-immolation at the main gate of the District Court in Dhanusha on Wednesday. Police intervened in time and prevented the incident from turning fatal.
The woman, identified as Phulkumari Rajak, 55, of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City–3, poured petrol over her body and attempted to set herself on fire.
Police immediately intervened after noticing her actions and rescued her. A team led by Police Inspector Aravind Sah, who was present at the scene, prevented the attempt.
The incident occurred while a hearing was underway at the Dhanusha District Court in a money-lending case involving Haremram Shasah and Gopal Sah. Victims of loan-sharking have been staging protests demanding that the two accused be remanded in custody.
Rajak reportedly attempted self-immolation during the protest. Following the incident, security has been tightened around the District Court premises.
Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
